In September 2009, Kentech was awarded the electrical, control and instrumentation installation works related to the Carbon Area on the EMAL Aluminium Smelter Complex.
EMAL is a strategic joint venture between aluminium producer DUBAL (Dubai Aluminium) and Abu Dhabi investment vehicle MUBADALA. The overall project is making history by being the largest green field single site aluminium smelter project ever, and the largest industrial project in the UAE outside of the oil and gas sector.
Kentech’s scope of works covered the procurement and installation of distribution boards, panels, transformers, small power and lighting equipment, junction boxes, fiber optic systems, glands, rack, tray and cable encasement systems plus balance of cable requirements. Specific work areas included: Anode Storage Building, Anode Baking Furnace, Green Anode Plant, Electrical Building, HTM Building, Fume Treatment Centre, Rodding Shop, Bath Cooling and Processing Plant, Butt Crusting Building, Rodded Anode and Hot Butts Storage, Substation and Fuel Gas Skids.
Kentech also provided the installation and pre-operator verification of EI&C systems including the following process elements:
Kentech successfully completed this project in July 2010 having executed 630,000 manhours without a lost time incident.
